Minecraft is also available on mobile phones, Android or iOS , in addition to FireOS devices . Its original release was in 2011 and, since then, a lot has changed, starting with the name. Previously called Pocket Edition , now the mobile version is just called Minecraft, as in other devices, such as PS4, Xbox One or Switch. Learn more details and how to download the old Minecraft Pocket Edition .
What is Bedrock?
Bedrock is the internal name given to the current version of Minecraft, more updated and with more features. It is co-produced by Mojang and Microsoft . The most basic difference between each platform, besides the controls, is only in the price of each one.
All operations, achievements, mechanics, are exactly the same.
The change was introduced from the “ Better Together ” update , released in 2017. Before it, each edition of Minecraft had a different version.
Some examples were: Windows 10 Edition, Gear VR Edition, Xbox One Edition, Nintendo Switch Edition, PlayStation 4 Edition and Minecraft Pocket Edition .
The “Better Together” update had as main attraction the communication between platforms, allowing users to play multiplayer together. Therefore, Microsoft and Mojang decided to unify even the names, making them all just “Minecraft”.
This means without subtitles, using the Bedrock version.
For what reason?
There is an additional explanation for the name change: to differentiate it from the classic version of the game, available only for PCs that do not use Windows 10 , called “ Java Edition ”. This version is older, inherited from when the game was still only owned by Mojang, with no involvement from Microsoft.
It does not communicate with Bedrock and does not have updates released at the same time – however, the game is still virtually the same, with almost identical features and the same mechanics for items, creation, monsters, among others.
